DAY 1 - 22nd April ISTANBUL : Arrival Day
Today
is an arrival day, so without further ado… welcome to
Turkey! You will be greeted at the Ataturk International
Airport by a Crossroads Travel representative and driven
to your hotel located in the heart of the old city.
DAY 2 - 23rd April ISTANBUL City Tour (B)
This
morning we partake in a fully guided tour of the only
city to span two continents. We will visit the Blue
Mosque, St. Sophia Museum, Hippodrome and Underground
Cistern. This evening we may wish to go out for a meal
and a few drinks.
DAY 3 - 24th April ISTANBUL TO GALLIPOLI (B + LB)
After
breakfast, we drive for the World War I Battlefields
of Gallipoli and arrive in time for lunch. This afternoon
on our fully guided tour, we will visit Lone Pine and
Chunuk Bair Memorials (the Australian and New Zealand
Memorials respectively), the Nek, Johnston's Jolly,
Anzac Cove and the Anzac Museum. Our guide will reveal
stories of battle woes and will bring alive the legend
of the Anzac's. This evening we rest early for the big
day ahead.
DAY 4 - 25th April ANZAC Day at GALLIPOLI (B + LB)
We rise
in the early hours in preparation for the memorial services
at Gallipoli. We start the day with the Dawn Service
held at the Anzac Commemorative Site, which will be
followed by the Australian and New Zealand memorial
services held at Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair respectively.
Today is the reason we came to Turkey, to commemorate
the sacrifice our forefathers made. Emotions run high
and this evening we may wish to partake in a few games
of two-up!
DAY 5 - 26th April GALLIPOLI to KUSADASI via Pergamon
(B + D)
We bid
farewell to our Anzac experience and drive for the small
village of Bergama for lunch before visiting the ruins
of Pergamon, home to one of the steepest amphitheatres
and also modern medicine. This afternoon we drive for
our night stop in Kusadasi.
DAY 6 - 27th Sunday EPHESUS Tour (B + D)
Today
we drive for one of the best-preserved ruins in Turkey
at Ephesus. We walk around this amazing site and stand
in awe at the technology once used in times gone by.
We will also visit the House of the Virgin Mary, (supposedly
where St. John brought her to live out her final days),
Temple of Artemis and Cave of the Seven Sleepers.
DAY 7 - 28th April KUSADASI to KOYCEGIZ via Pamukkale
(B)
We drive east
today for the calcium terraces of Pamukkale (cotton
castle) and the ruins of Hierapolis. We stop for lunch
and walk round this natural phenomenon before continuing
for the quiet village of Koycegiz for our night stop.
DAY 8 - 29th April KOYCEGIZ Boat Trip (B + L)
After
breakfast, we board a boat and cruise across Lake Koycegiz
where we will have numerous opportunities to swim. We
head for Turtle Beach, where the Aegean and Mediterranean
meet and on our return journey back to Koycegiz, we
visit the mud baths and cover ourselves in MUCK, before
jumping in the natural thermal springs.
DAY 9 - 30th April KOYCEGIZ to FETHIYE (B)
Today
is quite a lazy day as we drive south for Fethiye our
night stop. This afternoon is yours to do as you please,
and you may wish to jump from a cliff from 2000 metres
with a parachute strapped to your back, or perhaps sail
out to Butterfly Valley, only home to the Jersey Tiger
Butterfly or just lie on Europe's most beautiful beach
of 1995.
DAY 10 - 1st May FETHIYE to SIDE via Saklikent
Gorge (B)
Don't forget to bring your bathers today as we drive
along the Turquoise coast for Saklikent Gorge, a mountain
split in half several years ago. We trek up a short
distance and stop for lunch at the Saklikent River Bar
and Café before driving for our night stop in Side.
DAY 11 - 2nd May SIDE to CAPPADOCIA via Konya (B
+ D)
After a visit to
the Manavgat waterfall, we drive for the religious capital
of Turkey at Konya. Here, we have lunch and visit the
Mevlana Museum before driving for Cappadocia where we
rest for the night.
DAY 12 - 3rd May CAPPADOCIA Tour (B)
Today,
we marvel at the phallic-like structures of this one
of a kind region. Our guide will guide us round Pigeon
Valley, Goreme Open Air Museum, Zelve and its' Fairy
Chimneys, Devrent Valley, Uchisar Castle and the pottery
village of Avanos. This evening we have the option of
seeing a Traditional Turkish Folklore evening, which
should definitely not be missed!
DAY 13 - 4th May CAPPADOCIA Tour (B + D)
After breakfast,
we partake in another tour of Cappadocia, but this time
to Derinkuyu Underground City before a trek through
Ihlara Valley. This evening we rest for the long journey
tomorrow.
DAY 14 - 5th May CAPPADOCIA to ISTANBUL via Ankara
(B)
We buckle
our seat belts today as we drive for the nation's capital
in Ankara where we visit the Ancient Civilisations Museum
and Ataturk's Mausoleum. This afternoon we continue
for the big smoke in Istanbul.
DAY 15 - 29th April ISTANBUL : End of Tour (B)
After breakfast our tour finishes and we bid farewell
to our new found friends.
